Adults

Why consult an osteopath as an adult ?

As we age, the body undergoes numerous changes which will lead to a reduction in mobility and which will have an impact on the various functions of the human body.

As adults, we are faced with postural tensions linked to our lifestyle such as posture at work or physical activity. In adults, the entire daily environment, such as stress, physical or psychic trauma, will have repercussions on y

our body from a mechanical and tissue point of view. The accumulation of these factors could lead, in the more or less long term, to functional disorders and pain.

Regular preventative care for adults helps prevent the onset of this pain by improving overall health and quality of life at work.

Do you feel stressed ?

Stress is the body’s response to emotions. It is an adaptation reaction of the organism to maintain homeostasis (regulatory process by which the organism maintains the various constants of the internal environment). The phenomenon of stress has many origins: either the factors are external to the person, or conversely the factors are inherent to the person.

During occasional stress, metabolic, neuroendocrine and behavioral responses are put in place in order to restore the body’s balance in the short term. However, in situations where stress is repeated, it is defined as chronic.

Stress manifests itself on three levels:

  • Increased adrenaline/norepinephrine levels. This phase allows the body to regulate quickly. This phase mainly results in manifestations such as increased heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Activation of the endocrine system (hypothalamic-pituitary). This phase describes the activation of hormones, notably cortisol.
  • Action of the nervous system . The nervous system being overworked, it then takes over the management of our energy expenditure.

Prolonged or repeated exposure to the stressor makes the state of stress chronic. A state of exhaustion is reached which favors the appearance of pathologies such as:

  • For the musculoskeletal sphere: sprains, tendinitis, muscle pain.
  • For the visceral sphere: tachycardia, increased blood pressure, palpitations, myocardial infarction, ulcers, colitis.
  • Psychologically: headaches, eating disorders, frequent mood disorders, extreme fatigue, insomnia or lethargy, burn-out, depression, chronic anxiety syndrome and a significant decrease in job satisfaction.

Osteopathic treatment helps rebalance the body by working on the different spheres.

  • A cranio-sacral action targeting the nervous system.
  • A tissue and respiratory action, with work on the diaphragm and for the relief of muscular tensions which may have been accumulated.
